Chain Guide
Metal, width, length and weight
Every chain is individually weighed, so the weight shown is the weight of that particular piece. Price follows weight and carat.
| Chain | Metal | Width | Length | Weight |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cuban Link | 9ct yellow gold | 4.4mm | 60cm | 29.32g |
| Birdseye Link | 9ct yellow gold | 4.5mm | 55cm | 25.55g |
| Cuban Link | 9ct yellow gold | 4.1mm | 60cm | 24.5g |
| Cuban Link | 9ct yellow gold | 4mm | 60cm | 24.45g |
| Cuban Link | 9ct yellow gold | 3.3mm | 55cm | 15.66g |
| Cable | 9ct yellow gold | 1.7mm | 60cm | 8.77g |
| Cuban Link | 18ct yellow gold | 3.05mm | 60cm | 19.72g |
The link styles we make
- Cuban link
- Flattened, interlocking oval links lying in one plane. The most substantial of the three styles at a given width, and the usual choice for carrying a heavier pendant.
- Cable
- Round links joined at alternating right angles. Lighter and more flexible at the same width, and the least obtrusive behind a pendant.
- Birdseye link
- A patterned link that catches light at intervals along the chain, giving a textured surface rather than a continuous flat face.
Choosing a length
The chains above are made in 55cm and 60cm. As a rough guide, 55cm tends to sit at or just below the collarbone and 60cm a little lower on the upper chest. Where a chain actually sits depends on your build and neck measurement, so treat these as approximate. If you want a length that is not listed, ask us before ordering.
Will it fit my pendant?
A chain passes through the loop at the top of a pendant, called the bail, and bail openings differ from pendant to pendant — a wider chain needs a wider opening. You do not need to measure anything or check this yourself. When a pendant and chain are bought together we custom-fit the bail to the chain before dispatch, enlarging or remaking it where needed at no additional cost, even if additional precious metal is required. Buying a chain on its own, or to wear with a pendant you already own? Tell us what it is for and we will advise.
Gold and care
Every chain here is solid gold throughout — never plated and never hollow. The carat of each piece is listed in the table above, and when a chain is offered as an upgrade on a pendant page we only ever show chains in the same gold as the pendant. Any of these chains can also be made to order in another carat of yellow gold; ask us for a quotation. Gold is a soft metal: take chains off before sleeping, swimming or exercise, store them flat rather than coiled, and clean them with warm water, a little mild soap and a soft cloth. Avoid household cleaners and ultrasonic cleaners.
